The “Ageing Well in the Commonwealth” project, launched on October 23, 2023, is a new collaborative initiative by CommonAge in partnership with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to address healthy ageing across Commonwealth countries. This project recognizes the diverse needs of aging populations in these regions, as some Commonwealth nations face resource limitations that restrict access to health and social support systems for older adults.

The initiative aims to create an inclusive framework that leverages shared expertise and innovative solutions to promote better health outcomes for older adults. By focusing on enabling social participation, economic productivity, and independent living, the project aspires to reduce the burden of aging on health systems across both high-income and developing countries within the Commonwealth. A cornerstone of the project involves spreading insights from the UK’s Healthy Ageing Challenge, which encourages social enterprises and other organisations to develop accessible services and products that support well-being for aging populations.

By creating a cross-regional platform, the “Ageing Well in the Commonwealth” project brings together different sectors to create practical solutions tailored to the local needs of various Commonwealth countries. This project also reflects the goals of the UN’s Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030), which advocates for policies that ensure older adults’ dignity, health, and societal inclusion, a pressing need in a world where the aging population is rapidly expanding.
