Here’s a really interesting idea for you. 121 healthy adults aged between 62 and 78, were given music lessons over a 6-month period
They were split into 2 groups and the first group had a weekly piano lesson for and hour and were given, and 30 minutes’ practice to do each day.
The second group learned about different types of music, instruments and composers. But they didn’t actually make any music. They also had homework which involved listening to music, and preparing presentations.
At the end of the period, the researchers found that those that did the regular music practice saw real memory benefits. This finding, along with finding from other studies suggests that there can never be a better time to learn to play the piano than in later life! It is thought it could even delay the of Alzheimer’s in older people!
Have you always wanted to play the piano? This is your sign to begin!
