Sanofi UK is supporting OPAAL with a Gold Award from its Patient Group Bursary Scheme

The scheme supports initiatives across the UK that make a tangible difference to patient empowerment and education. OPAAL is using the award to set up an older people affected by cancer’s train the trainer programme, supported by four advocacy project partners.

Training delivered by older people affected by cancer who can tell their stories and share their experiences is much more powerful than training delivered by OPAAL or the project partners alone. We will be recruiting and training older people affected by cancer to become trainers able to talk to health and social care professionals about how independent advocacy supports older people affected by cancer. This will increase health and social care professional’s understanding of independent advocacy and increase referral rates for older cancer patients and older people affected by cancer from health and social care professionals.

This work is being delivered together with Beth Johnson Foundation, Help and Care, Dorset Advocacy and I-CANN
